The Robert Rose Foundation Victorian Wheelchair Football League (VWFL) Round Seven ‘Showcase’ is set to take place this Sunday June 19 at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre from 10:15am headlining an action-packed day of Wheelchair Football.

The Showcase Round will see all five of the Senior VWFL teams (Collingwood, Essendon, Hawthorn, Richmond, St Kilda) play off in a series of matches which will be live streamed via the VWFL Facebook.

Showcase Round 7 - Sunday the 19th of June

  • 10.15am: Richmond vs St Kilda
  • 11.00am: Collingwood vs Essendon
  • 12.00pm: Hawthorn vs Richmond
  • 1.00pm: Collingwood St Kilda

The Showcase Round marks an exciting moment in the calendar for the VWFL players and clubs as the sport continues to prosper. When the league first launched in 2018 there were 40 players and there is now over 80 with the competition expanding to introduce a Development League in 2022.

On Sunday, the VWFL will also host the first of two Junior Wheelchair Programs as it looks to introduce the game to younger players.

The two Junior Programs (June 19 and Aug 14) are designed for players aged 16 and under and will introduce the basic skills of the game and give the participants the chance to meet the players involved in the Senior league and watch the Senior games.

AFL Diversity Coordinator, Steve Odgers, said the growth of the game at all levels was pleasing.

"It's been great to see the growth in Wheelchair Football with the introduction of the Development League and now the Junior Wheelchair Program."

"We want our game to be accessible to everyone, and the Junior Program provides a fantastic opportunity for younger participants to become involved in Wheelchair Football.

The VWFL Junior Program will begin at 11:00am at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
