Saints mentors to lead seminar as AFL VIC supports coaching development
Following on from last season's successful webinar series, AFL Victoria and Coach AFL will continue in support of coach development with a face-to-face seminar to be hosted at Marvel Stadium on Sun 20 March.
The theme of the seminar and the program focuses on supporting and developing coaches at club level—developing better people, better coaches and creating better coaching environments.
Dual A-League premiership winning coach and new St Kilda Football Club coaching mentor, Ernie Merrick will be the co-keynote speaker along with St Kilda's Head of Development and Learning, Damian Carroll.
As part the face-to-face seminar, AFL Victoria will continue to promote the ‘Coach Developer’ concept with a number of experienced Coach Developers assisting to conduct breakout sessions (see below). Guest include Ash Ross, Shane Morwood, Craig Biddiscombe, Natalie Wood, Steve Teakel, and more.
The free seminar is available to coaching directors or coordinators as well as club coaches, presidents and any other officials or members interested in coaching.

- 10:15am – Keynote speaker Damian Carroll and Guest speaker Ash Ross - Importance of coach learning, development and supporting our coaches at club level
- 10:45am – Keynote speaker Ernie Merrick - Expert in the field of Coach Observation, Feedback & Support
Session 2
- 11:30am – Intro to Breakout sessions
- 11:40am – Breakout One -Selection one (rotation one) of the key topics: coaching charters, coach handbooks, coaching fundamentals and game constraints coaching, managing coaching on game day, coachAFL, the junior coaching curriculum, player centred environments and more….
Lunch
- 12:35pm – Coaching conversations and catered lunch
Session 3
- 1:05pm – Breakout Two -Selection two (rotation two) of the above topics...
