The TAC Unity Cup program has returned for 2022 bringing together a host of different cultural communities with a footy and life skills program culminating in a Gala Day at La Trobe University, Bundoora, Sunday 27 March.

The program has been running for 14 years with the aim to provide an opportunity for young multicultural Victorians to engage positively with their peers and the community through their mutual love of Aussie rules football.

Hundreds of players are set to take place in the TAC Unity Cup this year with teams featuring players from an array of backgrounds including Sudan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Israel and Australian born players from refugee families.

Participants will learn football skills, have opportunities to attend professional development sessions and learn more about road safety in Victoria, all in a COVID Safe environment.

AFL Victoria’s Indigenous and Multicultural Program Manager, Courtenay Dempsey, shared his excitement for the 2022 return.

“This year the TAC Unity Cup will welcome back over forty teams including an open age category. We are thrilled to have spectators return and enjoy all the festivities the day has to offer ”.

“Having the support of our partners, like the TAC and the Australian Federal Police is integral to the experience and opportunities we are able to provide to the participants.”

Thanks to TAC, participants will have access to the L2P program – designed to assist learner drivers who do not have access to a supervising driver or vehicle to gain the driving experience required to apply for a probationary license.
