Parade College has put forward a strong case as the best boys football school in the state by winning both the Herald Sun Shield Senior and Intermediate Division One boys titles at Sandringham on Wednesday.

The Senior Boys won the school's first title at the Herald Sun Shield's top level in 25 years, defeating Maribyrnong College by 27 points in a high-quality game played in dry but windy conditions at Trevor Barker Oval, 12.9 (81) to 8.6 (54).

AFL Draft prospect Nate Caddy was awarded the best-on-ground medal after playing all over the ground and booting two goals.

Earlier in the Intermediate Boys Division One decider, Parade rebounded from narrowly going down in the same game a year ago to St Patrick's Ballarat and held off a strong finish from Rowville Secondary College to win by seven points, 5.10 (40) to 5.3 (33).

Parade looked in control at three-quarter time with a nine-point lead and with a wind advantage in the last quarter, but Rowville never gave up and kicked the only major of the final term to ensure it went down to the wire. Rowville won the Intermediate Boys Division Two title last year and had to progress to this year's finally beating Caulfield Grammar in a Play-In game and then defending champions St Patrick's in the Semi.

Sebastian Murphy excelled for Parade through the midfield and led his side with two goals to win the best-on-ground medal.

Parade progressed to the 45th edition of the Herald Sun Shield by being the best side, in both Senior and Intermediate, in the Associated Catholic Colleges (ACC) competition this year.

The day started with the Senior Girls Division One Grand Final, with defending champions and favourites Caulfield Grammar, having not lost for a number of years, going down to Melbourne Girls Grammar 6.5 (41) to 3.8 (26).

Sophie McKay starred for Melbourne Girls and won the best-on-ground medal.

In its 45th year, the Herald Sun Shield brings together the best teams from school associations across Victoria to determine the best school football teams in the state.
