Energy Safe Victoria's (ESV) Safer Canteen Grants Program

ESV, in partnership with AFL Victoria, has handed out more than $120,000 over the past three years through its Safer Canteens grants program, helping 100 Victorian football club canteens become safer and more efficient. In 2022, a total of $30,000 is available with more than 30 clubs expected to receive a grant.

Safer Canteens promotes broader energy safety and supports community sport – boosting local regional and suburban economies after the impact of the coronavirus (COVID19).

Victorian clubs can apply for grants of up to $1,000 to replace old or faulty electrical or gas appliances in their canteen. The ESV Canteen Grant program will be open on May 11, 2022 and conclude June 16, 2022.

Safer Canteens Objective

The Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) Canteen Grant program supports clubs to be more energy safe in their operations and increase awareness of gas and electrical safety issues at the community level. The program is made possible through a partnership with AFL Victoria. It promotes both energy safety awareness and the growth of community football.

Energy Safe Victoria: Canteen Hero

2021 was another tough year for community football across Victoria, and we can think of no better way to continue our support of footy club canteens than by recognising and celebrating the Canteen Heroes who are there week in, week out giving their time for their club, and financially supporting another footy club canteen to purchase new and safer equipment.

ESV and AFL Victoria will open nominations for clubs to celebrate their unsung Canteen Heroes – the canteen volunteers.

A $1000 grant will be awarded to the winner’s football club for new gas or electrical equipment. Nominations will open 2 August 2022.
