VAFA, Geelong FNL to showcase GFs on Friday holiday
Two of the major local footy leagues in the state will showcase their top-tier premiership deciders this Friday 27 September, in an attempt to capitalise on Victoria’s AFL Grand Final-eve public holiday.
The Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) has scheduled its Premier Men’s Grand Final for the Friday public holiday slot for the first time, with Old Brighton and Old Scotch set to clash at Elsternwick Park.
Down the highway, the Geelong Football Netball League Senior decider will see Leopold take on South Barwon at GMHBA Stadium.

Minor Premiers Old Brighton will be vying for their first Premiership in the top flight in club history, while for Old Scotch who defeated St Kevin’s in Saturday’s Preliminary Final, it’s a return to the Grand Final stage 26 years in the making and 46 years since they last won it.
VAFA CEO Jason Reddick said, said: “The public holiday Friday in September was introduced for the people of Melbourne to get into the finals football spirit, with the AFL Grand Final being played the next day.
“However, from a community football perspective, there is no other football game being played in metropolitan Melbourne on that day.
“So, with the support of our Premier Men’s Clubs, we are taking the opportunity to showcase our VAFA William Buck Premier Men’s Grand Final on this public holiday and further grow the exposure of our competition to all football followers across Melbourne.
